Why we Read?(Books, Articles or any Magzine)

It was finally nighttime and my Grandmother was setting up the bed for our daily Story Time of Myths and tales. I tucked into my blanket, listening to today tale of the idea of Reincarnation and Soul which was being explained passionately by my Grandmother.
“Human body dies but the soul never dies,” she said and suddenly I felt the urge to ask a question, having read the World Population Chart for the century just a few hours ago I inquired “Dadi, the population is doubling so fast, does that mean that souls are being divided each time we die”
I didn’t receive any answers but was praised heavily for inquiring this and the 9 yr old me took pride in questioning so philosophically that no one in my family could answer. The idea of me Being Unique and reading a lot was the reason for my Pride in my early years.
Then I remember watching one of my favourite film ‘Before Sunrise’ for the first time at the age of 13 and the dialogue between the two protagonists about Reincarnation and Souls led to a wonderful Monologue by Ethan Hawke where he says that the population ratio of ancient men to modern man is 1:5000 and he contemplates if,that is the reason we are all so shattered or so Specialised cause we are just fragments of those souls. This monologue blew up my mind as the film was made in 1993 and as an early teenager, old things and people weren’t something to pay attention to , so that moment initiated the Spirit Of Learning in me and that point of time I started reading more and more rather than boasting a dozen books ive read earlier. I then realised everything I’ve thought to be a unique view has been already been Written, Published and sold for 10 million copies each.

That is why classics are the best thing to read as they will present you with a major fixed set of ideas around which all literature stands. You’ll find hints of those classics in books, films and conversations.
Focussing on why we Read is that, though we want our thoughts to be unique we wish to be related to someone more, this generally happens when the monotony of day breaks and something different happens let’s say someone you love dies, you go to a funeral, someone breaks your heart and suddenly you are desperate for making sense out of this life or the inverse you are in love so much that all you do is think, and that’s when Art is not a Luxury’s but sustenance. You are in a mood of if anyone has felt this extent of emotions before and then you read and all answers await you.To Find Meaning in this Meaningless world. I define Art as “Something so Subjective, yet so Universal”
John Koeing Of Dictionary Of Obscure Sorrow made the word ‘Sonder’ which is the realisation that each random passerby has a life as vivid and complex as your own and this word just expands your mind. There will be so many thoughts, feelings and ideas that you’ll never know about and to quench this thirst we Read.
To get into a person mind so deep that, we inherit a part of him into our mind.
In a world of selling Uniqueness spend some time thinking about the old generation and the billions of people that have led a whole life before you were even born. Be humble or just read as reading will make you.You will start doubting basic things as why we eat, you don’t have to be right or wrong you just need to ask.
Ending this I’ll quote Anaxagoras “How come hair comes from what is not hair and flesh from what is not flesh”
I know the modern-day nutrition theory clearly describes it but the style of the question could be applied to anything. Start questioning the things you know the answer to and change Perspective.
